my mother came across this shot of me when i was a wee little thing, dancing in swan lake. i was a dancer for 13 years and even took it as a subject at school right through to matric. i wanted to be a professional dancer but my passions began to sway more towards music - so i hit the road with a band instead, at 17. my mother was pretty shattered! this was one of many images captured by a professional photographer standing backstage with his child, at a performance of swan lake. i was about 6 years old.

vintage life in a vintage village

my friend's ten year old daughter recently exclaimed to me, "you're living a vintage life with your vintage things and your vintage clothes in your vintage village." we both reflected on how very accurate that statement was.

vintage on victoria

here's another reason to visit stanford soon: it's the first 'vintage on victoria' on the 1st of october, when the whole town will be bursting out in vintage along the main road, queen victoria street. the stoeps will be lined with traders selling various vintage goods from 10am until 2pm, so come along and pick up some beautiful bargains. contact reservations at stanfordvillage. co.za to book the pizbrooke self-catering guest house, which sleeps 4.

the lucky folk in joburg will finally be treated to their very own neighbourgoods market, located at 73 juta street, braamfontein. it launches on the 10th of september and i'm sure it'll be an outrageous success.

gemma orkin ceramics

i've always adored gemma orkin ceramics - a super talented local gem - and would scream like a banshee if i could stock them over at the bazaar. as far as i know, gemma is a young capetonian ceramicist with a famous artist mom, who clearly passed her artistic genes onto gemma.

city flit

i had 12 errands to run in cape town this week, including delivering 5 orders from my online shop, so i ended up staying over at one of my besties. i still only managed around 8 or 9 of them, thanks to the 3 hours of travelling i had to do in order to get there and return back home, but i managed to see my friends for lunch and breakfast the next day. we all had brilliant coffee and unforgettable croissants at the power & the glory on kloof nek road, in tamboerskloof, and dug into the lunch buffet at cafe paradiso for lunch, the day before. i took my friend shopping at the new vamp furniture spot in woodstock, and she dropped about R7k within a few minutes! i discovered 'woodstock vintage' (131 sir lowry road, woodstock. ph: 082 370 8311) on my way out of town yesterday, and could have spent all day lingering in their vintage kitchenalia section. i bought this x-stitch hoop and some more bone-handled knives to add to my collection, and would have loved a few chairs, some antique french linen and a framed print or two. curiously, i found some splendid treasures in hermanus yesterday, including these vintage cotton dresses, alfred meakin bowls, another moka pot and other bits and pieces from the 50's and 60's. i'm trying to put together a rail of vintage clothing for the stanford 'vintage on victoria' day on saturday, the 1st of october, from 10am til 2pm - which you all need to diarise now! the blue vintage cotton dress is R120 and is a size 8/10 and the mint green 50's cotton dress is R150 and a size 12.
