whats better than 3 ppl buying frocks at the same time?

nothing. nothing is better than witnessing 3 of your frocks being tried on and bought at the same time!!!! thank you, beautiful models and shop assistant for buying our frocks!

creative circle

i've been chatting with friends about an idea i've had to start a creative and craft circle in the deep south. who would be interested? we would have those who have skills and wanted to show us how to do something (such as knit, crochet, embroider etc) and at other times we would just meet for a couple hours, and do our own creative thing, just so we have that time to put away for ourselves, to be creative. at other times, we could all take on a project, such as embroidery, interpreted in whatever way we wanted and at other times, we could all work towards creating something beautiful that we could donate. always remember, that in being creative, we are being divine. let me know if you'd be keen xxx

another woman's treasure

my friend lauren told me about a new hospice shop that has opened next to a 'tears' charity store i always visit, and i decided to raid it, knowing there would be treasures to be found a plenty. these are only a few of my beautiful finds. my feet are very happy to be in leather. and my waist is happy to have this belt around my new folklore frock. and my eyes are happy to look at the illustration on this awesome beatles record and my hands are happy to reach for things inside this ridiculously beautiful leather handbag.

folklore forest shoot

yesterday's shoot was so much fun. (you can click on the pics to make them larger.) i had lauren fowler assisting me as a stylist but she had to spend most of her time pretending to be an alpha male baboon to keep an entire troupe of baboons from stealing our vases and crochet blankets. the baboons feature in some of the pictures from the shoot and some even posed when they saw my camera. my models had to jump up when they decided to start charging us and we had to wave sticks, it was hectic!!! but the weather was too beautiful, the forest was lovely, my models, shannyn fourie and samantha laura kaye were exquisite and they rocked our folky frocks and even bought some afterwards, which is awesome and such a compliment! i'll get round to adding the details of each dress and the accessories today but you can check out the whole shoot here

if you go down to the woods today

if you go down to the woods today, you'll see some pretty models wearing 'folklore' frocks, pretending to be extremely happy, holding hands, frolicking and skipping like models do. they're a special breed aren't they? in other words, i'm shooting the rest of the frocks today.

design indaba this weekend

it's the ultimate celebration of local design this weekend at the design indaba, being held at the cticc. many of my favourite designers will be there, such as marietjie from 'skermunkil,' who will have some beautiful new things for us to see, wendren of 'the wren design,' heather of 'skinny laminx' who will be part of the team at the threadcount collective stand and many many more awesome exhibitors. i'll see you all there. i just want to bury my face in these brooches. thank you for making beautiful things, ladies.

autumn range

i took a pic of lauren fowler's wrap that she was knitting today when we met for coffee and i begged her to knit one or two in time for the next folklore shoot. i would just adore to have these wraps around my head and neck as much as humanly possible, for the rest of my life. i hope you will too, as they will be available at beatnik bazaar in time for autumn.

we have a new alter-ego

alex, the author of award-winning blog, 'my branded life tm,' has been working on expressing another side of herself lately and has just announced that her alter-ego, 'cape town girl,' has a brand new blog of the same title. i look forward to this new phase in this capetonian copywriter's online adventure and am loving her desire for reinvention. congratulations on your new 'other other' self, alex!

a mammoth teaset

this gazillion piece tea set is being sold in a charity store here in my area...and strangely i had such a kak day that i thought that only a vintage floral tea set would cheer me up. so i stopped and parked when i did a drive by past one of my favourite charity stores because low and behol, i saw a vintage floral tea set in their window. it was even more beautiful than it had first appeared. i saw a price and thought that was it (r350) but...every piece was priced, making the whole set a total of r900. and guess what? you can't buy pieces separately. so, a set they got for free, will now set you back r900..hmm. that's even more than the antique store next door would sell it at. ya, but this is cape town, where ''''''charity'''' store owners have taken it upon themselves to just sommer sell their free stuff at mammoth prices. milnerton market have been doing this for the last two years or so too. well good luck to them all. i did love this tea set so much though.

off to see the wonderful wizard of oz

i'm off to see my seamstress with some changes i've sketched and i have some new fabric for more frocks. i've really started to accumulate some nice stuff!
