chrissy hynde

went to my hair salon today and it seems i walked away having channelled chrissy hynde, karen 0 and pj harvey, when i had no intention of doing so. sometimes the hair does that. my stylist said she was cutting like a woman possessed. its all a bit spooky really.

off to grahamstown festival at last!

dear reader

i'm finally hitting the road to grahamstown and am pretty stoked that everything came together as planned...well except for the slight deviation of going round to friends and draining a bottle of roodeberg instead of packing, but we'll do that tomorrow morning now, won't we my precious? i'll be bringing you news from the frontline of this 10 day long arts festival, as well as peek at middle earth....i'm most excited to watch aKING, Dear Reader and Guy Buttery perform their beautiful sonic movements and to watch Rob van Vuuren live for the first time...believe it because its true!

easiest crafts

engaging on convo with a customer today, after selling her a tiny olive green bamboo bird cage, i suggested that she cut out bird silhouettes from cardboard and hang them inside the cage at different lengths. it prompted me suggest some uses for paper cut out birds and how they can have an impact in your home.

all you'll need is cardboard, a cutting board, a blade and some string to begin with. trace your favourite bird silhouettes from pictures and cut them out.
using cut out birds as a chandelier over a simple light fitting will be a breathtaking feature in any room. create cut outs of birds in cardboard a different colour from your walls and place them together to create an impact. create paper birds to mark your dinner guests places at the table. make your own terrarium with small paper birds, glued on wire seemingly flying above the foliage. create a paper bird still life or have them hanging together in a flock for a real show stopper. i suggest listening to andrew bird while you're at it x

twine

twine is the brainchild of chloe townsend, the local capetonian designer behind the world renowned 'missibaba' range, and her friend, cara rosa. twine creates soft organic fabrics, tea towels, picnic blankets to swoon over and shoppers. you can buy directly from their store at the palms centre in woodstock or hopefully, i can talk them into bringing some beautiful things out south side :)
